A Place In The Sun

{Marchesa Resort 2012, New York}

Old school glamour meets summer houses and post-pool parties in Marchesa's 2012 Resort line.  This time round, designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig drew their inspiration primarily from photographer Slim Aarons' renowned book A Place in the Sun.  In Aarons' own words, he made a career photographing "attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places."...an apt description of the quintessential Marchesa customer.  The go-to clothier of the rich and famous, it would seem that even in their Resort line Marchesa couldn't help but include a few looks for the red carpet - an allowance I think many will be happy for.

Tu Vis Dans Ma Tête

French and French-Canadian artists produce some of my favorite music and tend to see a lot of replay action on my itunes.  Pair a haunting and emotionally raw song with a beautifully shot, artistic video and I'm on board, every time.  You could pause at any moment in David Giguère's video for L'Atelier and it would be lovely.  Each frame is as perfectly composed and gorgeous as a photograph.  Une oeuvre merveilleuse par un gars tout à fait doué.

A Living Man Declared Dead And Other Chapters

Taryn Simon is an amazing contemporary art photographer known for her elaborate, thought-provoking works which probe beneath the surface of human nature and interactions.  Her latest exhibit, A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters, chronicles 18 generational families over a four year period of time.  Using images and text, Simon attempts to map the relationships between chance, blood, circumstance & fate, and discern patterns embedded in the narratives she follows.  From Bosnian genocide victims, to the presumed dead in India, to Australian lab rabbits, each forms a "chapter" in which Simon examines how external forces (territory, power, circumstance, religion) collide with the internal (psychological & physical inheritance) in a fascinating art-world-meets-anthropology type of exposition.

Amazingly gorgeous satellite photography from The Nighttime Lights of the World dataset showing human settlements across the earth, derived from nighttime data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program.  Beautiful photography from the National Geophysical Data Center, who knew?  

...I seriously want to blow up and frame the first one.
